How to make a good resume? |

WHAT MAKES A GOOD RESUME?
I have found that what makes a good resume is the ability to stand out from the pack. That is, a resume that makes an impact as soon as it is opened or viewed by the reader.
What you don’t want is for the recruiter or potential employer to look at it and instantly file it with a yawn.
So you need something that communicates the essence of you, and what you have to offer that makes you stand out from every other applicant jostling for position, particularly with the market the way it is at present.
The way that we help you to do that is via a thoroughly completed questionnaire document. This helps us to breathe life into your resume and really tailor it to you and your specific objective and needs.
Key Achievements. These are vital. These are those things you did that are or were “above and beyond” what is usually required from someone in that position. For example, as an administrative assistant, did you revamp the filing system improving customer service and administrative delays? By how much roughly? Tell us about the situation in your own words. Don’t worry too much about the words or your descriptions and paraphrasing, that is what you are paying us for! We just need the info so that we can rewrite it and wave our magic wand over it! Did you help control backlogs? Did you surpass your sales targets? If so by how much?
It is important to remember that the more specific you can get, and the more vital statistics you can give the better. In other words, it is better to say “Increased sales by 36% during third quarter of 2007” than to say “dramatically improved sales” – get the idea? We also want an idea of you as a person, and the individual qualities and abilities that you can bring to the table. Don’t forget when hiring, companies want to be assured of three things: o That you will fit into the existing organisational structure and culture o That you will stay for as long as possible o That you will be productive. So it is these three things that need to be communicated in your questionnaire to us. Yes, as with all things, it takes time and a little blood, sweat and tears. But you will be so pleased with the resume, it will be worth the effort, all of our customers are. One lady recently told us she felt like she had just had a facelift!
