In response to an overwhelming number of clients telling us “I thought you would help me with examples and you would collect these from me by telephone” we have formed this service.

Don't think that we can just "write whatever"  If we were to lie and make something up, how would you feel at interview when you are asked to expand upon a lie?

Please understand that telephone dictation and guiding you takes time.  Add to this the time spent reading your information, assessing and understanding it, rewriting it, formatting the document and checking it, and you will understand that believe it or not, writing selection criteria is not a profit making machine!  It is an extremely time consuming tasks involving intense concentration and attention to detail.  Our prices are based on quality not quantity.  This depends upon the examples you give us.  Yes, this isn’t easy.  But neither is writing selection criteria!   We recommend that you identify the situations prior to us calling you as the telephone consultations are limited to fifteen minutes.  Over the years I have found that clients will usually give an example that doesn’t fit with the question, or the example is missing parts of the formula the most common being no result.  So a situation, task and approach but no outcome.

If during the phone call you are told that the example is inappropriate, you are then really placed “on the spot” as you will then need to come up with an example there and then.

This is why we ask for examples to be emailed through to us rather than take them via telephone.  You need to take time to sift through the myriad of situations you are faced with on a daily basis and come up with one that fits the question.

Yes this is hard.  Every client I have ever spoken to over the years has said the same thing.  But this is what the selection criteria panel is looking for, specific, targeted examples which make their job easier in selecting staff.  In fact, some organisations (ATO being one of them) do not even interview candidates, they select primarily based on the selection criteria document.  So you see now how important this is.

The alternative is that we call you back later when you have identified an example.  But please understand we cannot sit on the phone while you think, think, and think for an example.
